The League of Women Voters of Seattle supports a national search for a new superintendent. We believe this is the only way to find the best person for the job. The League also believes there is no need for an interim superintendent. Supt. Manhas has done a very good job and should be allowed to carry out his term.
In support of your effort to find a new superintendent, the League offers the following criteria to be used in your search:
- excellent proven leadership skills in working with a diverse population
- a comprehensive vision for the Seattle School district and the energy and personality to get others to buy into the vision and the requirements to carry it out.
- integrity in both the personal and professional life
- excellent communication skills, especially in dealing with the public
- a commitment to equity in all aspects of the school system and its policies
- a willingness to work collaboratively with staff and the community.
Finding a new superintendent will not be an easy task. The League stands ready to help in any way we can. We are strong supporters of public education and want to see the Seattle School District fully supported by its parents, staff, and the community at large.
Sincerely,
Nancy Eitreim
