July 25, 2006: Letter to Metropolitan King County Council re Transit Now proposal

To: Metropolitan King County Council
From: Nancy Eitreim, President, LWV of Seattle
Becky Cox,President, LWV of King County South
Date: July 25, 2006

Dear Councilmember Constantine,

The Leagues of Women Voters of King County support The Transit Now proposal to add 0.1% to the sales tax and use the proceeds to expand the King County Metro transit system.

Our transportation positions were adopted after a 2003 study and consensus process by members of both the King County South and the Seattle Leagues.

The Leagues support a diverse, seamless, balanced transportation system that includes such features as rail, express, local and feeder buses; maximum development of high occupancy vehicle lanes, promotion of bicycle use; and adequate, safe pedestrian access to all transit and community services.

We support increases in funding to provide adequate revenue and flexibility for a multi-modal system of transportation.

We also support cooperation and coordination among transportation systems to implement effective regional transportation choices.

It is important that King County Department of Transportation and Metro Transit continue to work closely with other transit systems in the region to develop an effective and seamless regional transportation system.

Sincerely,

Nancy Eitreim
President, League of Women Voters of Seattle

Becky Cox
President, League of Women Voters of King County South
