Re: SR 520 Resolution

To the City Council members:

The League of Women Voters of Washington appreciates the work you are doing to try to set out the framework of issues that will need to be addressed as we all work to find the best alternative for SR-520 replacement.

However, we urge you to broaden your priorities for this project to include, of equal importance, the following three issues:

1. As stated, transit operations and connectivity.
2. Protection of the arboretum. Not mitigation—protection.
3. Reduction of current levels of carbon emissions and other air pollutants.

We appreciate that your request for refining project alternatives does not endorse a particular alternative. But we would go further and urge you to request that proposals other than those in the current DEIS receive serious, prompt, and equal attention to see if any of them better protect the arboretum, better reduce carbon emissions, better provide mobility and transit connectivity.

Thank you,

Linnea Hirst
